Bradford Teaching Hospitals is seeking public and patient governors to sit on the Foundation Trust’s Council.
This is an exciting opportunity to represent the interests of our service users, our local communities, and our Foundation Trust members.
We are seeking to fill six seats. Five from people who live in our public constituencies, and one seat for our patient constituency. (Our patient constituency covers people who live outside of the Bradford district).
Our five public seats cover:
- Public – Bradford South x 1
- Public – Bradford West x 1
- Public – Bradford East x 1
- Public – Keighley x 1
- Public – Rest of England and Wales x 1 (The Rest of England and Wales constituency is for people who live outside of the Bradford District area who have not received treatment from our Trust but have a keen interest in what we do).
As a governor you will be able to:
- ensure there is robust challenge about the strategic direction of the Trust, our vision and how we are performing
- share with the Board and Council of Governors the views of the local people you represent; actively seeking out what they think about the services provided by Bradford Teaching Hospitals
- take part in meetings of the Council of Governors, its committees, governor training days and Joint Council of Governors/Board of Directors sessions to represent the interests of Foundation Trust members and the public as you carry out the statutory duties of a governor.
Associate Director of Corporate Governance/Board Secretary at the Trust, Laura Parsons, said:
The Council of Governors has an important role in making our Foundation Trust publicly accountable for the services it provides.
It is important that people stand as governors so that we have the voices of our local communities influencing the important decisions that we make.
We actively encourage people to take part in aspects of hospital life and this is one more way that people can get involved.
The Council is made up of staff, appointed governors from partner organisations and 13 elected members from our public and patient constituencies. Candidates must be a Foundation Trust member, aged 16 or over and live in the area they want to represent.
