• Sovereign Health Care helps BTHFT’s Brilliant Bradford Awards shine

Colleagues from across Bradford Teaching Hospitals were celebrated at a special awards ceremony at the end of last month.

The Brilliant Bradford Awards were created to recognise the amazing hard work and dedication staff at the Trust have shown over the past year.

The awards, which were held at the Cedar Court Hotel, in Bradford, were made possible thanks to sponsorship from Sovereign Health Care and Bradford Hospitals Charity. Their generous support fully funded the event.

Sovereign’s Community Programme Co-ordinator, Kauser Mukhtar proudly presented the We Care Award on the night.

As well as celebrating teams and individuals of the year, awards were also given to ‘unsung heroes’ and those giving outstanding patient care.

    Trust Chair, Sarah Jones said:

This year the Foundation Trust had a record-breaking 230 nominations for six awards – all of them reflecting the hard work, success and innovation of colleagues and teams across Bradford Royal Infirmary, St Luke’s Hospital, Skipton Renal Dialysis Unit and the district’s community hospitals at Westbourne Green, Westwood Park, Eccleshill and Shipley.

The ceremony helped shine a light on NHS staff who do an incredible job and go above and beyond the call of duty.

This year’s categories and winners – who go that extra mile for our patients, hospitals and the NHS – were:

We Care Award: Healthcare Assistant, Ebony Pearson

We Value People: Specialist Parkinson’s Physiotherapist, Emily Noble and Specialist Parkinson’s Occupational Therapist, Sophie Meredith.

We Are One Team: Stroke Team, Ward 6

Employee of the Year: Joint winners were Renal Unit Housekeeper at St Luke’s Hospital, Darek Hofman and Emergency Department Senior Sister, Natalia Taylor

Valuing Diversity Award: Midwife June Thomas

Unsung Hero Award: Porter Laura Ward

Charity Hero of the Year Award: Trainee Nurse Associate, Claire Walker

A special Outstanding Achievement Award, chosen and presented by Chief Executive, Professor Mel Pickup, went to the Trust’s Neonatal team for their achievements during the year.

Professor Pickup, presenting the award, said:

Day and night, they worked tirelessly providing not just clinical expertise but compassion, reassurance and most of all hope, to parents navigating some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

We honour them with this outstanding achievement award and recognise not just their professional excellence but their profound strength of character. To our Neonatal Unit team, you have inspired us all. You have reminded us of the power of kindness, compassion, care and resilience.

Sovereign Health Care’s Community Programme Co-ordinator, Kauser Mukhtar, congratulated all the award winners.

    She said:

Sovereign Health Care has a longstanding relationship with Bradford Teaching Hospitals.

In 2023, for our 150th anniversary and the 75th anniversary of the NHS, we contributed half a million pounds towards the purchase of the latest da Vinci robotic surgery system to ensure patients in the region can access cutting edge robotic surgery.

We look forward to our continued partnership with the NHS here in Bradford and send our congratulations to all the winners for the Brilliant Bradford Awards.

    Professor Pickup added:

Once again Sovereign Health Care has been extremely generous in its sponsorship of the event, and I am delighted to continue our close working relationship.

While Head of Fundraising for Bradford Hospitals Charity, Lisa Williams, said:

Bradford Hospitals Charity is proud to sponsor the Brilliant Bradford Staff Awards, celebrating the exceptional efforts of our dedicated colleagues.
