WORK will be carried out by Bradford Council on Smith Lane – at the rear of the Bradford Royal Infirmary site in stages from Wednesday, 16 October to Friday, 25 October (weather permitting.).
The road resurfacing work is to be split into two sections (A & B) for minimal disruption to road users (see attached plans).
There will be two phases to the works:
- Planing – to remove the existing road surface
- Resurfacing – to lay the new road surface
Throughout the works:
- Pedestrian access will NOT be affected
- Vehicle access to and from the main car park (Gate 6) will be maintained
- Buses will be operating on a diverted route
Section B works (from the Gate 6 Main Car Park to Daisy Hill Back Lane) will start on Wednesday, 16 October at 9.30am with road surface planing. This section of the road will be closed off for the duration of the works and there will be NO vehicle access and egress (except for emergency vehicles).
The following entrances to site will be closed during the works (9.30am to approximately 7pm)
- Gate 5 – Maternity Wing
- Gate 6 – opposite the New Hospital Wing
- Unwin Place Contractors Car Park
Temporary Measures:
- A temporary one way system will be introduced – access ONLY to the Women’s and Newborn Unit and associated car parks will be via Daisy Hill Lane (via the former school entrance gates), and egress ONLY will be via Gate 4 onto Duckworth Lane
- The Main Car Park at Gate 6 will remain accessible from Toller Lane end ONLY
- Gate 7 will need to be used to access areas serviced by Gate 6 during the works period
- Unwin Place Contractors Car Park will not be accessible during the works period
All attempts will be made to finish the intended works as soon as possible before the indicated time.
The Section B resurfacing works will be undertaken on two dates (Friday, 18 October and Monday, 21 October) in two sections from 9.30am to 7pm.
Friday, 18 October will be from the car park to Gate 5 (Women’s and Newborn Unit) – affecting Gate 6 and Unwin Place contractors car park.
Monday, 21 October will be from Gate 5 to the Daisy Hill Back Lane – affecting Gate 5 for a short period.
The previously listed temporary measures will be put into place, whenever particular entrances are affected.
Section A works (from Gate 6 Main Car Park to Toller Lane) will start on Tuesday, 22 October at 9.30am with road surface planing. This section of the road will be closed off for the duration of the works and there will be NO vehicle access and egress (except for emergency vehicles).
The following entrances to site will be closed during the works (9.30am to approximately 7pm)
- Gate 7 – adjacent to the Estates workshops
Temporary Measures:
- Gate 6 will need to be used to access areas serviced by Gate 7 during the works period
- The Main Car Park at Gate 6 will remain accessible from the Daisy Hill Road end ONLY.
All attempts will be made to finish the intended works as soon as possible before the indicated time.

Thursday, 24 October will be from Toller Lane to Croft Cottage – affecting access to Toller Lane.
Friday, 25 October will be from Croft Cottage to Main Car Park opposite gate 6 – affecting Gate 7 access and egress.
The previously listed temporary measures will be put into place, whenever particular entrances are affected.
