Taking you through our preoperative assessment process
Before you have an operation, you will need to see our preoperative assessment team. You will receive a letter and a text message informing you of your appointment time. The preoperative assessment clinic is based at St. Luke’s Hospital. This video explains what might happen during your time with us at the preoperative assessment clinic.
If you are unable to make the appointment offered, please contact our team so that we can rearrange. Failure to attend your preoperative assessment appointment will very likely result in a delay to your operation.
Our guide to the tests we may perform
The amount of preparation you need will depend on the nature of your operation, and your underlying health. If you are fit and healthy, and having a small operation, you may need no tests at all. If you have health conditions or are having a big operation you may need more intensive testing, such as blood tests, heart scans or breathing tests.
If your tests are normal and require no further action, we won’t contact you. If, however, the highlight an issue that needs resolving before your operation, we will contact you to inform you, and prepare you for the next steps.
