BRADFORD Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Pennine Breast Screening Service is set to feature live on ITV1’s breakfast programme Lorraine on Monday (October 5).
Bradford GP Dr Amir Khan will interview Consultant Radiologist Dr Shazia Khan – who is based at the St Luke’s Hospital unit – between 9 and 10am about the importance of being breast aware and attending breast screenings. It is anticipated that viewers will also be shown round one of the unit’s mammogram rooms.
Breast cancer, if diagnosed early, can be curative, however if diagnosed at a later stage it can be more difficult to treat.
Screening programmes
Breast screening programmes were paused nationally in March as the NHS focused resources on tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Pennine Breast Screening Service resumed in August and this month – to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month – experts at Bradford Teaching Hospitals are encouraging everyone who receives an invitation to take up their appointment.
In July, Lorraine launched a new nationwide breast cancer awareness campaign called ‘Change and Check’, to raise awareness of the importance of regularly checking for the signs and symptoms of breast cancer by placing ‘Change and Check’ stickers in changing rooms across the country.
