When your baby is close to being ready for discharge home, we may offer you and your baby a bed in our Transitional Care Unit (TCU).

Some patients may not need admission to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and may be transferred direct to TCU instead.

Transitional care means that mum and baby can stay in hospital together. Here, you will be supported by experienced neonatal nurses and midwives to prepare you for going home.

Spending time on TCU can be particularly helpful for establishing a good pattern of feeding and weight gain and building parents’ confidence caring for their baby before taking them home.
