A ground-breaking employment project in Bradford delivered in partnership by Generation Medics and Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership has been showcased at a prestigious national NHS event in London.
With a focus on breaking down barriers to employment, this initiative has garnered attention for its innovative strategies and tangible outcomes in addressing unemployment and local healthcare workforce challenges, while enhancing the overall quality of life for Bradford and Craven residents. This aligns with the NHS’s commitment to not only providing healthcare services but also contributing to the socio-economic development of communities.
The “NHS Big Pitch” event brought together policymakers, healthcare professionals, industry leaders, and stakeholders from across the country to discuss innovative approaches to tackling issues facing the NHS.
The ‘Generation Medics Bradford’ employment project is a collaborative effort between the award-winning social enterprise Generation Medics and Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership. The project was featured prominently at the Generation Medics exhibition stand and presented to Sir Stephen Powis, National Medical Director of NHS England and other key healthcare leaders.
Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the project’s ambition, success stories and its contributions to the local health and social care workforce and economy.
“We are thrilled to have been selected to showcase our ‘Generation Medics Bradford’ workforce programme alongside our other projects at this national event. It was an opportunity for West Yorkshire to be front and centre on the national stage.” said Dr Hinnah Rafique, Founder of Generation Medics and NHS England Clinical Entrepreneur Fellow.
“Our initiative has made significant strides in empowering individuals, joining the dots between other local projects and transforming lives of individuals in Bradford District and Craven. We are excited to share our success and insights with a broader audience.”
Cllr Imran Khan, Bradford Council’s portfolio holder for education, employment and skills, said: “This community-focused employment programme by Generation Medics is already demonstrating its value with outstanding success for local residents, some of whom have been out of work for years and are facing multiple barriers into employment.
“It offers our residents not just the support to get into medical and healthcare jobs, but pathways to meaningful careers right here in our neighbourhoods while also signposting them to other local support services they may need.”

About the ‘Generation Medics Bradford’ programme
The next generation of healthcare professionals in Bradford and Craven are being supported through Generation Medics ‘Virtual Healthcare Academy’. The online programme allows people to explore roles in health and social care, translate their skills to roles and empower people to put their best foot forward when applying for jobs in healthcare even if they have no prior experience in the sector. This programme supports young people and unemployed adults looking to enter a job in healthcare.
Dr Hinnah Rafique, Founder of Generation Medics and NHS England Clinical Entrepreneur Fellow said: “This programme presents a really exciting opportunity to bring the hospital and wider health and social care sector closer to the local community to inspire the next generation and empower people to find a role that works for them.”
‘This programme is significant for me and students like me because it’s helping me get to where I want to be in the future – working in the NHS.’ said Vicky, a 16 year old young carer and past participant of the Generation Medics Virtual Healthcare Academy.
