Qualifications: BSc (Hons)
Kathryn is a qualified registered nurse with a BSc (Hons) in Health Care Studies.
She completed the Advanced Breast Care and Advanced Communication Skills courses, including the Level 2 in psychology, in December 2010.
She worked at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust for 35 years, first as a staff nurse and then as a senior sister across a number of specialities in the acute setting, including ENT, vascular, and general surgery.
Kathryn became a breast care nurse specialist in 2007, and moved to Bradford Teaching Hospitals in 2012.
She said: “As a breast care nurse specialist I meet patients referred for assessment of the breast following concerns raised about breast symptoms and/or a breast screening invitation.
“I also care for patients with benign (harmless) breast changes, providing support, assistance and education to help them manage their symptoms and to raise their awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast disease.
“In addition, I inevitably provide support to women referred for surgical and medical breast treatment after a diagnosis of breast cancer. This role involves helping and assisting patients to make key decisions about their treatment, and I also help them and their families manage the impact of a cancer diagnosis and the subsequent treatment required.”
