Two kind-hearted doctors who work across Bradford and Leeds have decorated their home with a spectacular music and lights show to brighten up their community in the midst of the pandemic – and raise vital funds for an NHS charity.
Consultant Rheumatologist, Kavitha Nadesalingam, who is based at St Luke’s Hospital which is part of Bradford Teaching Hospitals, and her husband, Dave Kirby, a Leeds GP, have decked their house with thousands of lights to illuminate the dark days and nights of December.
Shows will take place daily at 4.30pm, 5pm and 6pm from this Friday and continue throughout the school Christmas holidays as a tribute to the NHS and the community of Horsforth, where the couple’s Yorkshire stone house will come alive with the sound of music and a co-ordinated light show in aid of Bradford Hospitals’ Charity (BHC).
Dr Nadesalingam said: “This is the second year that we have put on the light and music show. It started last year as a celebration for Dave and mine’s 40th birthdays as we couldn’t have a proper party and we just wanted to bring some Christmas cheer to our NHS colleagues and our community.
“2021 has been another tough year and we raised an amazing £4,000 for Bradford Hospitals Charity last year so we just thought we would do it all again this year.”
Dr Kirby added: “It’s great to be able to, once again, lift the mood of the community and our colleagues in the NHS. The show takes three months to plan and I spend many weekends and evenings in the run-up to Christmas arranging the timings for the songs and getting the lights wired and in position.”
The couple, who have four young children, are appealing for donation to Bradford Hospitals’ Charity via their Justigving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Kavitha-Kirby3
The couple’s fundraising page currently stands at more than £560.
The ‘Horsforth House’ light and music show will continue to New Year’s Day.
Bradford Hospitals’ Charity, Head of Fundraising, Hayley Collis, said: “We are absolutely thrilled Drs Nadesalingam and Kirby have chosen Bradford Hospitals’ Charity to benefit once again from their fundraising through this illuminating idea.
“The fundraising is helping us spread additional sparkle and magic on our patients and NHS colleagues over the Christmas period. A huge thank-you – and to our communities, please support this fantastic event.”
