For acute (emergency) and elective (planned) admissions, children and young people are admitted to ward 30 for a variety of conditions. Children may be under the care of different specialities, and not necessarily under the care of a paediatrician.
The ward includes a stabilisation area for children who are clinically very unwell and require extra care and support. Some children will return from stabilisation to the ward, but some children may need to be transferred to another hospital for specialist care. This transfer will be coordinated by the Embrace team who ensure the safe transfer of children between centres. The nearest Children’s Intensive Care Unit is Leeds although your child may be transferred to a different unit.
