My name is Jenny Gould. I’m the Children’s nurse specialist for surgery and gastro.

My role consists of caring for children at home when they have under complex surgery, mainly bowel surgery or if the babies are born with a surgical problem. Surgery takes place in Leeds under the surgical team and nurse specialists and I look after the children and families once home.

Some of the conditions are:

  • Hirschsprungs disease
  • Vacteral
  • Anorectal malformation
  • NEC

Some of my patients have a stoma and some have central lines and have TPN.

My role consists of helping the families to manage these conditions at home and helping the Leeds team to manage these conditions at home.

I also look after the children with IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease – this can be Crohn’s or Colitis) alongside my consultant paediatrician, Dr Sims. We have shared care for these patients with the Leeds Gastro team. We try to do as much as we can in Bradford but some procedures and infusion medications have to be done in Leeds.

I also look after the families in Bradford that have children with hydrocephalus and spina bifida alongside a great MDT team and my consultant Dr Wildig, consultant paediatrician in the child development centre. We also work alongside 2 amazing charities SHINE and ASBAH, who both help support our families.
