The Yorkshire metabolic service is a well-established service in Bradford that cares for and provides treatment to babies, children and young people both locally and those in the wider Yorkshire region who have a wide range of rare inherited metabolic disease.

Our team provides highly specialist nursing support and education to all patients and their families with a metabolic diagnosis, working within the hospital and community. We are based at St Luke’s hospital in Bradford and our team is linked to the Manchester metabolic service. Most of our work is undertaken in the community at the family home, nursery or school. This is where we provide support, teaching and education to all those involved in the care of our patients.

We run 3 MDT outpatient clinics each week; this is a joint dietetic/consultant/nurse clinic as many of our patients involve needing specialist dietetic management.

We also provide nurse led adolescent clinics and joint adult/paediatric transition clinics throughout the year for young people who are ready to transition into the adult service.

The metabolic team is a made up of a multi-disciplinary team formed of paediatric metabolic consultants, clinical nurse specialist nurses with the support of specialist metabolic dietitians, specialised metabolic laboratory including the Leeds new-born screening team, clinical psychologist, secretaries, and admin staff.
