Pennine Breast Screening
Pennine Breast Screening serves a population of approximately 202,000 registered females from Bradford, Airedale, Calderdale, Dewsbury, and Kirklees.
They are invited automatically for a mammogram (breast x-ray), every three years, from the ages of 50-70. A first invite will be received within three years of turning 50. This means you will receive your invite before you are 53 years of age. The age-extension trial, which had extended Well Woman breast screening to some aged 47-50 and 71-73 years of age, has now ended.
Appointments will be offered at one of our mobile breast screening units travelling across the region or St Luke’s Hospital, Bradford.
If follow up appointments are required, they will take place at St Luke’s Hospital.
Pennine Breast Screening also carries out MRI surveillance of women with a higher risk of breast cancer.
All registered females will receive an automatic invitation in the post once every three years. Please wait for your letter before contacting us.
If you are over 70 you may be eligible for an appointment.
Trans people should proactively discuss Well Person checks with their GP, as you may not get an automatic invite for appropriate screening when your gender marker has been changed on your NHS record.
Please remain aware of your own ‘normal’ with a level of comfort that feels right to you; be aware of any changes that give you cause for concern and contact your GP for a referral to your local breast clinic as soon as possible. This action is for everyone, all genders, no matter their age.

The Symptomatic Breast Imaging service compromises of five one-stop breast clinics per week, where women with a breast complaint may be referred by their GP.
Women will then be assessed by a consultant breast surgeon. Experienced radiographers and advanced practitioners will perform a mammogram and breast ultrasound as required, which will be interpreted by a consultant radiologist.
There is also the opportunity to discuss any issues with our dedicated breast care nurse specialists.
Annual mammographic follow-up imaging of women who have had a diagnosis of breast cancer is also undertaken by the Symptomatic Breast Imaging Services.
