The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Patient Recruitment Centre (PRC) at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has successfully recruited the first participants in Europe for two new clinical trials investigating innovative potential treatments for respiratory conditions.
In just one week, the dedicated team at PRC Bradford, based at the Bradford Institute for Health Research, identified and screened the first European participants for two randomised, placebo-controlled trials, led by renowned biopharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca.
Firstly, the AJAX Phase II study is looking at the safety and efficacy of a potential treatment (known as AZD4604) for adults with uncontrolled asthma. Read more here.
The second trial, MIRANDA, is a Phase III study of tozorakimab an investigational treatment for people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with a history of exacerbations. Read more here.
For the people of Bradford suffering from these respiratory conditions, participation in such innovative trials creates the possibility of accessing the latest therapeutic advances before they become widely available.
In addition, PRC Bradford has officially become a care partner with AstraZeneca. This strategic collaboration will open further opportunities for the centre to recruit patients for studies of potential new medicines in AstraZeneca’s robust development pipeline across a range of disease areas and give members of the communities in Bradford access to cutting-edge care and treatment, not yet available to the NHS.
