Sakina is a breast care nurse specialist.

She qualified in 1995 and took on her first post as a staff nurse in the medical paediatrics department at St Luke’s Hospital.

Her career focus changed and she moved to Bradford Royal Infirmary to work on ward 7, which is home to our Annette Fox Haematology Unit, a dedicated haematology ward with 14 beds, where she stayed for three-and-a-half years.

Sakina then moved to work with Marie Curie’s palliative care team, on Leeds Road, Bradford for four years before returning to Bradford Teaching Hospitals in 2005 as a part-time breast care nurse and part-time junior genetic counsellor, where she supported patients with a family history of breast, ovarian and bowel cancer.

She completed her breast care nurse certificate in 2007 and gained a BSc (Hons) degree, where she undertook modules relating to the support of patients with cancer.

In September 2016, she became a full-time breast care nurse specialist. She now supports women and men with benign changes and breast cancer.

She said: “I enjoy the supportive aspect of my role and my knowledge of the South Asian language and culture allows me to be empathetic and helpful to our Asian, as well as Caucasian patients.

“My role presents many challenges and also rewards that are difficult to put into words. I hope that I will continue to give my patients this high level of care and support in future years.”
