• Trust welcomes two new non-executive directors

Two new non-executive directors, Zafir Ali and Bryan Machin, have been appointed to the Board of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Zafir joins the Trust from Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust where he has been an associate non-executive director. He has extensive audit and business knowledge and experience as a chartered internal auditor and currently holds several audit roles at the Government Internal Audit Agency.

Zafir is passionate about public service delivery, with a keen interest in workforce wellbeing and the need to work collaboratively within partnerships to join up service delivery. He aims to share and apply his knowledge of working with central government at a local NHS level.

Bryan has joined the Trust having recently retired as director of finance and deputy chief executive at Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust.  A qualified accountant, his 40-year NHS career spans many organisations across Manchester and Yorkshire.

He is also vice-chair of the board of trustees at St Anne’s Community Services, a charity committed to enabling over 1,600 adults across the North of England, including Bradford, to live their best life.

Bryan, a season ticket holder at Bradford City FC, is delighted to be joining the Trust and is looking forward to finding out more about our services and the people who provide them.

Trust Interim Chair, Helen Hirst said:

I’m delighted to welcome Zafir and Bryan to the Board and look forward to working with them. They are very skilled and experienced in their fields and the value that they will add to our work will be considerable.

They have a clear passion for the NHS and for what we strive for here in Bradford – making our services even better for patients. I know they will play important roles in helping us achieve our goals.

The new appointments follow the retirement from the Board of Jon Prashar and Barrie Senior on 31 January having each served two terms of three years.

Zafir and Bryan joined the Board on 1 February for a term of three years to 31 January 2027.
