Self management is not about doing everything on your own. It’s about being empowered. Building your confidence, your belief in yourself and your control so that you are in the driving seat on your road to recovery. Therapists can work in partnership to support you with this.

Setting goals is an important part of self management. It is the planning of small steps to do the things that are important to you.

Recovery happens at different rates and to a different extent in everyone following a stroke, and you may have set backs. Setting goals will help you to see the progress you are making towards doing the things you want to do, maybe in a new way. Writing down your goals and reviewing them regularly is a strategy you may find helpful.

Finding strategies that work for you to achieve your goals is important. The links below have been chosen to support you in how you ‘self-manage’.
