Local Muslim Community Fundraising for Big Neonatal Appeal
More than 150 volunteers from the Bradford community of Dawoodi Bohras recently walked a combined 1,053km to raise funds for our Big Neonatal Appeal, as part of their Local Project Rise Initiative.
Over £10,700 has been raised to expand family accommodation at Bradford Royal Infirmary’s neonatal unit so more parents can stay close to their babies when they are sick. The unit cares for more than 500 pre-term and poorly babies every year who come from across the Yorkshire region.
Hussain Raaj Cochin, of the Bradford Dawoodi Bohras, said:
The Dawoodi Bohras’ fundraising walk was held to commemorate the 80th birthday of the global leader of the faith, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, who regularly reminds his followers of the importance of contributing to society and helping those in need.
Many local businesses supported the Dawoodi Bohras’ fundraising efforts, and their company logos were featured on banners positioned along the walking route and at the start/finish line.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Gerry Barker and Lady Mayoress, Jean Barker, as well as Lisa Williams, Head of Fundraising at the Bradford Hospitals Charity, attended the walk to show their support.
Lisa added:
We would like to thank the Bradford Community of the Dawoodi Bohras for all their hard work, time, and effort in organising this event to support Bradford Hospitals Charity Big Neonatal Campaign.
An incredible amount raised and the kind donations and support will take us even closer to achieving our vision of providing the very best possible care, experience, and facilities to parents when their poorly babies are being cared for in our unit.
Donations can be made at Project Rise JustGiving page.
