We have a team of play staff on ward 12 and wards 30 and 32. They provide play cover from:

  • 8.00am to 7.00pm Monday to Thursday
  • 8.00am to 4.00pm Friday

The activity room is open 24 hours although equipment is limited if no play staff are available.

Nursing staff have access to a small number of colouring books, pens, jigsaws and games when play staff are not available. Play can take place in the activity room or at the bedside. Play staff will visit your child each day and offer play.

The activity room has a good selection of toys. Board games and jigsaws are also available. Each day a different craft activity is on offer. Have a look on the door to see what the activity is for that day.

Children must be supervised in the activity room. Patients can be supervised by the play staff.

Visiting children are welcome in the activity room but must be supervised by an adult family member at all times.

Televisions / DVD / games consoles

Each bed space has a television which is suspended either above the bed or on the wall. Each television has access to free-view channels only. We only have a small supply of television remote controls which may mean sharing with other people. If you require a remote please ask a member of staff who will do their best to help. Televisions are turned off at 9.00pm (due to watershed).

We have a small number of games consoles and portable DVD players for children to use. Please ask one of the play staff if you would like to borrow one.
