PENNINE Breast Services at St Luke’s Hospital turned pink to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The team has held fundraising events for more than a decade now, but this year’s plan to host a group sponsored walk was curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, staff decided that their fundraising effort must go on, and did the walk in their own time and hosted a pink-themed raffle instead.
Janette Watmough, Assistant Practitioner at Pennine Breast Screening, based in the Horton Wing, said: “We were unable to do all the fundraising events we had planned due to current restrictions, but we still managed to raise some funds for our Pennine Fund which sits with Bradford Hospitals’ Charity.
“I’m delighted to say our famous pink raffle went ahead and despite not being able to hold our sponsored walk which was due to take pace in the middle of lockdown, we each did our own walk or challenge in our own bubbles, which altogether raised an amazing grand total of £538.
“A huge thank you to all our families, friends and colleagues at St Luke’s and further afield who sponsored us or purchased a raffle ticket. All the monies raised will go to helping enhance our hospital environment to improve our patient experience.”
The department is also planning to do the Settle 10 mile Challenge Loop walk once Government guidelines allow.
