• Festive week of celebrations lights up Bradford Teaching Hospitals

Bradford Teaching Hospitals is now aglow with the festive spirit following its annual Christmas lights switch-on.

The Christmas trees stand in the zen garden on the main concourse at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) in Duckworth Lane and the Horton Wing at St Luke’s Hospital. Both hospitals are part of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The switch-ons at both sites were marked by performances from Shipley’s fabulous Hall Royd Brass Band. At St Luke’s, one of our longest-serving staff members, Sister Barbara Brown, pressed a plunger to light up the large tree, while at BRI the family of the first patient booked in via our pioneering electronic patient record (EPR) system performed the honours.

The Trust’s week of celebrations continue with a festive bake-off challenge at BRI today, with staff testing their baking skills by producing the most sumptuous scones and best decorated Christmas cookies. Bake-Off finalist, Sandy Docherty, will be our guest judge in the main concourse from noon to 12.30pm.

Tomorrow will see the Trust’s annual volunteer awards afternoon take place, followed in the evening by BTHFT’s Brilliant Bradford staff awards, sponsored by Sovereign Health Care, at Bradford City Football Club.

The week will be rounded off by the long service awards, honouring staff who have completed 30 years’ service in the NHS. The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, 6 December at 12.15pm in the main concourse at BRI.
