Philosophy of midwifery care in Bradford

Childbirth is a profound event, taking place in the social context of a woman's life. In Bradford we see our midwifery practice as encompassing the social, emotional, cultural, spiritual, physical and psychological aspects of the woman's childbearing experience.

We acknowledge pregnancy as a state of health, childbirth as a normal physiological process and health professionals and women working together in partnership.

This partnership is based on mutual respect and an understanding and appreciation of responsibilities on both sides. We will ensure that the information needs of all women are met and that this enables and empowers women to make informed choices for themselves as families. Care provided will be based on the best available clinical evidence but will also take into account the feelings, beliefs, values and preferences of women, so that we can work together to achieve outcomes appropriate for each individual woman.
