The Radiation Physics Service is based at St Luke's Hospital and provides specialist radiation protection and medical physics support. From your local health centre or dental surgery to acute hospitals and NHS Trusts, we pride ourselves on a long history of scientific and technical support helping our customers to deliver the bests and safest healthcare possible.

The team

Our team of specialised scientists and technologists are led by Consultant Clinical Scientist, Radiation Protection Adviser and Head of Radiation Physics Services, Shaun Beggs. We are supported by a friendly and efficient PA to the Head of Service.

The team

Bradford Teaching Hospitals, Radiation Physics Service is led by Mrs Sharan Packer, Consultant Clinical Scientist. 

The service has over 35 years of experience in providing radiation protection advisory services.


Our staff incorporates certificated 

  • Radiation Protection Advisers (RPA)
  • Radioactive Waste Advisers (RWA)
  • Laser and UV Protection Advisers (LPA)
  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Protection Advisers (MRPA)
  • Medical Physics Experts (MPE)
  • Scientific staff are HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registered Clinical Scientists
