First appointment/what to bring

Once you have given your name at the desk your child/ adolescent will be called to have their weight, height, blood pressure and urine checked.

You will be give a ‘Childhood Health Assessment Questionnaire (CHAQ)’

These questions are not age related so just put ‘not applicable –‘N/A’ if your child is too young to perform a particular function. You will be asked to fill out this form at each appointment and it is to help us assess progress.

Unless we have previously met you on the ward the first appointment is slightly longer than usual as we have to gain a comprehensive history. This will include asking about the family’s medical history too. We will then need to do a physical examination of all the joints. This is done at each appointment so please bring some shorts for your child or ensure they are in loose fitting clothes.

Diagnosis may be given on this first visit but further investigations may be required before this can be done. These investigations may include- blood tests, x-rays, ultra sounds, Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerised tomography (CT) scans.
