A state-of-the-art Nutrition Learning Centre has opened on the ground floor of C block at St Luke's in the area previously housing the CT scanner.
The communal training facility will be shared between the different specialties of dietetics to enable the training, education and support of patients, carers and health professionals across the Bradford district.
Principal dietitian, Clare Gelder, said:Â
"We're absolutely delighted with the Nutrition Learning Centre as it provides a modern learning area along with a new teaching kitchen. It gives a fit-for-purpose area to deliver training and education to ensure our commissioned services are delivered to the people who need them.""The area has proven invaluable to services to provide education around disease specific treatments. It also gives our service the opportunity to provide nutritional updates to carers and health and social care staff which includes providing education around food provision, teaching nutrition and menu planning."
Since it opened in March 2013, the nutrition learning centre has held over 45 education and training sessions with over 400 patients and 45 staff attending. Sessions including diabetes education, group facilitation skills training for staff and metabolic clinics where children are given the opportunity to trial products that will help with their treatment, have seen the facility being put to full use.
